Patrick Mehlert

Bethesda SC Head Coach

About Patrick: Coach Mehlert holds a USSF National ‘B’ Coaches License and has earned his NSCAA Pro Development Certificate, NSCAA Goalkeeping Certificate, and an NSCAA Development of Technical Player Diploma. He has worked with Bethesda Soccer in multiple different positions since 2009.

As a player, Patrick featured prominently for American University, serving as co-Captain during his senior season and earning All-Patriot League First Team honors his senior season. During his time with the Eagles and he was also named Offensive Player of the Week and was on the Patriot League Honor Roll all four seasons.

At Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS, Mehlert lettered four years on the varsity team and won an Maryland State Championship in 2007. As a senior Captain, his accolades included All-Met Honorable Mention, All-County First Team, All-Gazette Second Team, and All-State Second Team. At the club level, Mehlert played Youth Soccer for BSC, Pachuca FC, and Potomac SC.

Brett Colton

 Boys U12-U14 Age Group Director

About Brett: Coach Colton holds a USSF ‘A’ License, a Fluminense Futball Club Coaching Diploma (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil), and has worked closely with former Technical Director, Bordeaux FC’s Pierrot Labat in the Total Football Method. While traveling, coaching, and playing elite teams aboard, Colton has gathered World Best Practices from Holland AJAX, PSV, Real Madrid, Scotland’s UEFA National Training Facility, and KNVB’s Dutch Player Systems.

Colton has coached in BSC for over 17 years in which he has coached every age group from u8 to u19. Colton’s teams won numerous state cups & high-level tournaments before the Academy. Additionally served as the u17 & u19 Academy Coach for five years. During his tenure, he coached over 100 div 1 college players & has had several players who have gone on to play professionally. Colton now serves as the U12-U14 Age Group Director and currently coaches the U13 Academy Team.

In 2013, Colton’s AC Bethesda U18 Boys was noted as one of the top recruiting classes in the country.

As a player, Colton played soccer at American University (NCAA Division l) and anchored the defense to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance his senior year. He played in the Washington Premier League where he captained the team at a scouted appearance in Agadir, Morocco.

Trevor Martin

 Boys U7-U11  Youth Development Program Age Group Director

About Trevor: Coach Martin holds a USSF National  ‘B’ Coaches license. He attended George Washington University earning a Bachelors’s Degree in Psychology with a Minor in Exercise Science. As a four-year starter for the Men’s Soccer Team the Colonials won two Atlantic 10 Championships and was named captain his senior season. In high school, Trevor was a captain and starter for the Bethesda-Chevy Chase high school and scored the game-winning goal in the 2001 Maryland State Championship. He received First-team All-County honors, was a Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention, and an All-Chevy Chase Gazette honoree.

Coach Martin has been working with Bethesda SC since 2005 and has been instrumental in the Youth Development Program’s success. Trevor has helped build Bethesda SC’s YDP Program into one of the top programs in the country, developing numerous MLS Players & over 250 Div. I, II, III players for college.

Derek Biss

MLSNext Boys Academy Director U15-U19

About Derek:  Coach Biss has a long track record of success inside and outside the Bethesda program. In addition to serving as our U15-U19 Age Group Director, Derek will continue as the head coach of our Boys U15 & U19 Academy teams.

He holds a USSF National ‘A’ Coaches License, a USSF ‘National Goalkeeping’ License, and an NSCAA Premier Diploma. In addition to his work with Bethesda, Derek has also served as the Goalkeeping Coach for Georgetown University.

 As Age Group Director, Derek will work closely with our Boys U15-U19 Coaching Staff on player development, college recruitment, team strategy, and philosophy. BSC’s U15-U19 Boys program comprises 17 teams and over 250 players. This includes our U15-U19 Academy teams, who will compete in the new MLSNext League.

Wendell Regis

About Wendell: Coach Regis has been with the BSC family for close to a decade primarily working within the club’s Youth Development Program and coaching the Bethesda Blue teams.

He played professional soccer from 1996 – 2007 in the Major Indoor Soccer League with the Philadelphia Kixx, Cleveland Force, Hershey Wildcats, Harrisburg Heat, and the Baltimore Blast. He is a member of the Blast’s 2003-2004 and 2005-2006 Championship sides and was named to the 2003-2004 MISL International All-Star Team. He also appeared international for Trinidad and Tobago’s under-23 National Team. In addition to his professional exploits, Wendell featured prominently for Howard University, where he also received his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing.

In addition to his coaching experience with BSC, Wendell has also coached Riverdale Baptist High School and Potomac High School. He currently holds a USSF “A”Coaches License and an NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 1 Certificate.

In addition to working at Bethesda, Wendell is an international scout for the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association(TTFA) and Assistant Coach at Howard University.

Christopher Morgan

Bethesda SC Head Coach

About Chris: Coach Morgan has worked at the BSC program since 2017 and currently holds a USSF National ‘A’ Coaches license. He is also currently pursuing his USSF National Youth License. He has over 15 years of coaching experience at the U9-U18 levels first with Pinecrest Premier Soccer Club in Miami, Florida, and now with BSC. He attended St. George’s College School in Jamaica and would enroll at American University where he received his BSBA and his MBA. Coach Morgan played semi-professional soccer with the Washington Mustangs and was a member of the Jamaican Men’s National Team.

In addition to working with BSC Coach Morgan is also the Director of Finance and Administration at the School of Professional and Extended Studies at American University.

Nicolas Santeriano

Bethesda SC Head Coach

About Nicolas: Coach Santeriano currently holds a USSF National ‘C’ Coaches License and has been with the Bethesda program since 2016. He also currently has his Level 1 Coaching Certificate from the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), and is an Olympic Development Program Coach for the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association.  Before his work with BSC, Nicolas was the head coach at Urbana Eagles FC (2016), John Paul Middle School (2014), MSI (2014), SAM Soccer of the Maryland Soccer Foundation (2014-2016), and Soccer Shots (2014-2015). He was also part of D.C. United’s U-23 coaching staff during their 2014 USL PDL season. During that same time, he also served as a Youth Academy Scout for the club.

Nicolas played high school soccer with Club Atletico San Miguel in his hometown of Buenos Aires, Argentina. With San Miguel, he won the 2003 Regional Championship and was a runner-up in 2002 and 2004. He has an Associates’s Degree in Business Management from Montgomery County College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland.

Shawn Wijeratne

Director of Operations

About Shawn: Coach Wijeratne has an extensive amount of experience both on and off of the pitch. Before joining the BSC team, he worked as a Coach and Operations Assistant for Potomac Soccer Association and at Richard Montgomery High School where he served as the Junior Varsity Head Coach in 2008 and as an Assistant Coach for the Varsity side from 2007-2009. He has also worked as a Trainer for Magic Moves Soccer, a Player Development Program Clinician for MSI Soccer, and a Soccer Clinician for the Montgomery Sports Association.

Shawn carries a USSF National ‘D’ Coaches License and has completed his TOVO T1 and TOVO V1 coaching courses. He has a Double Major in Sport & Event Management and Commercial Recreation & Tourism from Shepherd University where he also played four years of college soccer.

Simone Mariotti

Soccer Juniors Director

About Simone: Coach Mariotti currently holds a USSF ‘C’ License and has been a member of the BSC coaching staff since 2008.

Mariotti’s extensive coaching experience includes serving as the Assistant Coach King University Men’s Soccer and as the Coach of King University Soccer Academy Men’s Team. At the youth level, he has worked with the Diadora Impact (Boys U10 ,U11, and Girls U10 and Academy) and was a coach at Matthew’s USA Soccer Club (U10, U11, U14, and U18 girls’ teams). He is also the Founder and Director of the Passion Soccer Academy.

Simone is a former midfielder for the Charlotte Eagles, formerly of the United Soccer League. His international experience includes playing for La Rustica, a side based out of Rome, Italy.

Coach Mariotti is fluent in Italian, Amharic (Ethiopian), and Tigrinya (Eritrean). He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Math and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from King University.

Phillip Gyau

Head of Skills Development

About Phillip: Coach Gyau is a former U.S. Men’s National Team (’88-‘90) who earned six caps and was a Player-Coach for the U.S. National Beach Soccer Team.

Gyau played professionally in Belgium and the United States playing with the Washington Warthogs, Baltimore Blast, Tampa Bay Rowdies, the Colorado Foxes, Montreal Impact, Washington Diplomats, and Maryland Bays.

As a college player, Gyau led Howard University to an NCAA National Championship as their leading scorer. He is also currently the Head Coach for Howard University Men’s Soccer Team.

At the club level, Coach Gyau has taken his teams to several Maryland State Championships and a Regional Championship while developing several players in the U.S. Soccer Residency U17 Program.

Gyau’s daughter, Mia-Irene Gyau, played with Bethesda SC Boys U15 Lions, and his son, Joseph played with Bethesda for 8 years before being invited to the U17 National Team Residency Program. Joe currently plays for FC Cincinnati and the United States Men’s National Team.

Phillip is a coach for Bethesda Soccer Club’s Youth Development Program and Senior Boys Program. He currently holds a USSF National ‘B’ Coaches License.
