At BSC, we help players develop into collegiate athletes. But even with the best soccer record, players who want a soccer scholarship must face a new challenge: writing a winning college application. And according to Forbes (October 2023), top colleges and universities increasingly consider the college essay a significant factor in applications.

Writing a memorable college essay is a challenge, but like many skills-based challenges, it gets easier under the guidance of an expert coach. For example, reflecting on her experience working with Graham Associates’ instructor Dr. Rachael Graham Tin, one student wrote:

After registration, you can expect an email from one of Graham Associates’ expert writing instructors to schedule the first session. If your player has an essay draft, they share it with the writing instructor, who then prepares questions and feedback for the session.

During the session, the writing instructor shares her screen and guides your player in making the changes they discuss. If your player did not have an essay draft before the first session, they leave this session with a clear outline and a plan for producing a complete draft.

The writing instructor continues to work with you to schedule the second and third sessions, where she guides your player on revising, editing, and proofreading the college essay. After each session, your player leaves with an updated file containing all the changes they made collaboratively with the instructor.

If the instructor decides the college essay is final after the first or second session, she and your player can begin perfecting other written materials, such as supplemental essays.

We recommend that you register your player for college essay writing coaching no later than six weeks before an application deadline. For example, if your player plans to apply by an early decision deadline of October 15, we recommend registering by September 1. For applications due on January 1, we recommend registering by November 15.

For individual sessions, our writing instructors can meet at your player’s convenience, including evenings and weekends. Graham Associates asks for a 24-hour notice to reschedule a session.
