Monica Lovett-Groat

Goalkeeping Director, U13-U19

About Monica: Coach Lovett-Groat joins BSC for the 2019-2020 season after an extensive career as a coach and a player . She brings expertise in goalkeeping, mental and physical player development to the Bethesda program.

Lovett-Groat brings a wealth of experience to the BSC  after playing at both the Division I (Northwest State University) and NAIA (St. Thomas University, Lindenwood University and Bluefield College) levels during her collegiate career. She earned Academic-All Sun Conference in 2001, All-Heart of America Conference and NAIA National Championship All-Tournament Team in 2002.

Following her college career, Lovett-Groat spent 11 years as a professional in the USL W League with the Tampa Bay Extreme and the Northern Virginia Majestics.

Prior to joining BSC, Coach Lovett-Groat served as the assistant women’s coach and goalkeeper trainer for Bluefield College (2004-05). At the club level she has worked in the past as the Goalkeeping Coach for DC Stoddert Soccer Club and Stafford Area Soccer Association.

In addition to working at Bethesda she is in her third season as an Assistant Coach at American University’s Women’s Soccer Program. She also serves as the West Central District ODP Director of Goalkeeping for the Virginia Youth Soccer Association.

Monica holds three NSCAA licenses – Advanced Goalkeeping Diploma, Special Topics Training the Goalkeeper and Special Topics in Mental/Physical Player Development. Lovett-Groat has a USSF D License and National Youth License. In 2015 she was also named the 2015 VYSA, Region 1 and National US Youth Soccer Girl’s Competitive Coach of the Year. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Bluefield.

Elizabeth Robinson

Bethesda SC Head Coach

About Liz: Coach Robinson has been one of the top girl’s soccer coaches in the Montgomery County area. For eight years Liz was the head coach for Walter Johnson High School, helping them earn their first-ever Maryland State title. Before joining WJHS, she was an assistant to BSC colleague Haroot Hakopian at Churchill High School. She currently holds a USSF National ‘D’ Coaches License.

Liz grew up in the Montgomery County area, starring for Wootton High School where she played for BSC colleague Dave Greene. In 1998 she was part of the Wootton side that won the state 4A Championship the first year in which Montgomery County High School sides competed in the state championships. At Wootton, she was a two-time All-Met first team and a member of the All-State first time in her senior season. Liz played collegiately at the University of Delaware where she also earned her Bachelor’s Degree. She would go on to earn her Master’s Degree in School Counseling at Johns Hopkins University. She is also currently a Guidance Counselor at Wootton High School.

Gary Burke

Bethesda SC Head Coach

About Gary: Coach Burke is greatly influenced by his English heritage and shows his passion to help players develop in every training session. He wants to build confidence and nurture the ability of his players with a holistic approach to teaching. In addition to coaching with BSC. Gary manages SAM SELECT soccer league and EDP Future league based at the MD SoccerPlex. Additionally, Gary is a USSF licensed grassroots educator and teaches other coaches for MSYSA.

As a player, he represented England schoolboys at the U16 and U18 levels as well as having time at professional clubs Newcastle and Darlington before coming to America. Gary was given a soccer scholarship to Division I  St. Francis University, Pa. where he was a four-year starter and team captain. Gary continues to play competitively in the DC area.

Gary currently holds a USSF National ‘A’ License, a USC Premier Diploma, and a US Youth Soccer National Youth License. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Saint Francis University with a double minor in Business Management and Business Administration.

Noelle Keselica

Bethesda SC Head Coach

About Noelle: Coach Keselica holds the distinction of having both played and coached for BSC. She joined the BSC coaching staff after having served in a similar capacity with Ellicott City Soccer Club. She also currently holds a USSF “E” Coaches License.

Her experience with the club runs deep having won multiple titles and awards as a youth player with the Bethesda Fury. As a member of the Fury she was a nine-time Maryland State Cup Champion, a two-time Region I U.S. Champion, and won the 2001 U.S. National Championship. During her high school career, she was a two-time Youth All-American and was a four-time member of the Washington Post’s All-Metro First Team. At the University of Virginia, Noelle was a member of the 2004 side that won the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament and in 2005 she was an NSCAA All American. She featured extensively for the United States Women’s National Team through multiple age levels and was a member of the U21 2006 side that made the finals of the Nordic Cup. Professionally, she played for Sky Blue FC in the Women’s Professional Soccer and Balinge IF in Sweden.

She currently holds a USSF “E” Coaches license and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Virginia.

Emily Janss

 Age Group Coordinator: U7-U12; Head Coach GU8 Academy 12/13

About Emily: Coach Janss has been with the BSC program since 2015 and is currently the Head Coach of the team’s U8 Academy 2012-2013 team. She is also the Director for the Girls U7-U11 teams.

Prior to joining BSC Emily served in various coaching capacities throughout the United States including as an Assistant Coach for the University of Arkansas, the University of Maryland, Loyola University, George Mason University, and at St. John’s College High School in Annapolis. She has also served as the Head Coach of the Maryland Olympic Development Program and as the Travel Director for OBGC.

As a player she was a four year starter at the University of Maryland and was a Regional All-American in 1996, 1997, and 1999. She began her professional career with the New York Power in 2001 and was with the Washington Freedom from 2005-2009. In 2007 she helped the Freedom win the W-League title and was a member of the W-League Championship All-Tournament team in 2007 and 2008. She also played one season with Fortuna Hjorring in Denmark during which the club finished second in the Danish 3F Cup. In 2016, she was inducted into her’s High School’s Hall of Fame.

Emily currently holds a USSF National ‘A’ Coaches and USSF Youth Coaches License. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiological Science from the University of Maryland.

Christine Thebo

Head Coach, GU8 Academy 12/13

About Christine: Coach Thebo has worked with BSC’s U8 Girls for over the past two years, help instilling the skills and excitement for the beautiful game. Prior to her work with BSC she was an assistant coach at Potomac Soccer Association, working with U8 and U11-U14 age groups. She currently holds a USSF ‘D’ Coaches License, a National Youth License, and has a Goalkeeping Level I Diploma from the NSCAA.

As a player Christine led BSC to four Maryland Club State Championships and played four years for Maryland’s Olympic Development Program. In high school she helped was an All-Met with Winston Churchill High School and won multiple Montgomery County Championships with the side. In college, she was a four year stater at the State University of New York at Cortland where she was named ALL- SUNYAC. During her time at Cortland the side qualified for the NCAA Tournament four times, once in Division I and three times in Division III.

Jeff Rohrman

About Jeff: Coach Rohrman has been with the BSC program since 2015 and has extensive experience as a club, ODP, and college coach.

As the Head Coach at the University of Wisconsin and assistant coach at the University of Maryland, Coach Rohrman has had a long and successful journey at two of soccer’s most prestigious and respected programs. Over his time in the collegiate game, Rohrman has worked with and helped develop several US National Team and professional players. Rohrman has developed and produced numerous All-Conference, All-Region, All-Tournament, and All-American selections.  He was a part of an ACC Regular Season Championship, ACC Tournament Championship, and a Final Four appearance during his coaching tenure at the University of Maryland.

In addition to his college coaching experience, Jeff has coached at the youth levels in Maryland and Wisconsin for over 30 years. He has previously served as the Director of Coaching at Potomac Soccer Club and State Cup Teams Director at Bethesda.  Rohrman has been on the State and Regional ODP coaching staff for years.

Rohrman also worked with the United States Soccer Federation as a National Teams Administrator, overseeing the US Olympic Festival Soccer Competitions and National Team domestic and international training camps and competitions.  He traveled with the US Under-20 National Team to Australia for the 1993 Youth World Cup and also attended the FIFA World Futsal Championships in Hong Kong.   During his time with US Soccer, Rohrman worked alongside some of the country’s best National Team coaches.  

As a player, Rohrman was a two-time high school all-American and a two-time NJCAA all-American at Bethany Lutheran College.  He would play at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he would earn MVP and All-Region honors his senior year, in addition to serving as captain.  While playing at UW-Milwaukee, Rohrman played under legendary US National Team coach Bob Gansler, who guided the US in the 1990 World Cup.  Upon graduation, Rohrman participated in the  US Olympic Festival and played professional soccer for the Milwaukee Wave (AISA) and Real Santa Barbara (WSL).

Jeff currently holds a USSF National ‘A’ Coaches License. He has his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master’s Degree in Physical Education and Sports Administration from the University of Minnesota-Mankato.

Mustapha Minteh

Bethesda SC Head Coach

About Mustapha: Coach Minteh has over 20 years of diverse coaching experience at the High School, Select, and Classic levels. He has worked with Peter Bonde who is the former Technical Director for the Danish Football Association, is a member of UEFA’s Technical instructor’s panel, and was an assistant coach at the 2002 World Cup. Minteh’s coaching strength is the ability to guide each player to get better by focusing on technique, tactic, physiological, and physical aspects of the game.

His coaching experience in girl’s soccer includes finishing as a Maryland State Cup Semi-Finalist in 2011, President Cup Regional Semi-Finalist in 2010, the Bethesda Thanksgiving Tournament Champions in 2010, the Discovery Soccer League Indoor Champions 2009 among many other accolades.

As a player, Mustapha was capped for the Gambian National Team and served as their captain for multiple appearances.

Mustapha currently holds a state ‘D’ license, a USSF ‘C’ License, and an NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma. He is also a member of the NSCAA.

Shannon Cirovski

BSC Girls Director of Coaching, Head Coach of GU16 ECNL First Team 04

About Shannon: Coach Shannon has an extensive amount of experience both as a coach and as a player in the game of soccer. She has served as the Girl’s Director of Coaching at BSC since 2015. Prior to her tenure as the Girls DoC Shannon served as the head coach for the University of Maryland Women’s Soccer team, the United States Women’s U-19 National Team, and George Washington University.

As a player, she was a two-time first team All American (1988 and 1989) and the recipient of numerous awards including the 1988 and 1989 Soccer America Player of the Year, 1989 ISAA Player of the Year and the 1989 Hermann Trophy. In 2000, she was named to the Soccer America College Team of the Century. Shannon earned fifty-one caps with the United States Women’s National Team between 1987 and 1991 and was a member of the side that won the first-ever Women’s World Cup.

She currently possesses a USSF ‘A’ National Coaches License and her Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Relations from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She is a member of the United States Soccer Hall of Fame and is a member of the Board of Directors at US Club Soccer.

Dave Ungrady

Bethesda SC Head Coach

About Dave: Coach Ungrady joins the Bethesda Soccer program after an extensive career both on the sidelines and in the press box as a coach, player, and journalist. He currently holds a USSF National ‘D’ Coaches License and has previously coached at Loudoun Soccer, D.C. Stoddert Academy, and St. Stephens/St. Agnes High School.

In addition to his work as a coach, Dave has worked for more than 30 years as a career journalist. His work has appeared in the Washington Post, the New York Times, and USA Today, and on ESPN, CNN, NBC, and Voice of America. In 1997, he served as the play-by-play commentator for D.C. United. He is the author of four books on sports and is the founder of the Born Ready Project, which teaches life skills to teenagers and young adults. He is a school teacher in the Loudoun County Public School system.

Dave is a graduate of the University of Maryland-College Park, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and was a member of their soccer and track and field teams. After his collegiate career ended, he played professionally for the North Virginia Royals in the United Soccer Leagues D3 Pro League.  Dave is also a member of the Notre Dame High School (Trenton, N.J.) Athletics Hall of Fame.
