New team raises Bethesda’s profile in U.S. Soccer

Bethesda, MD — October 8, 2025 — Bethesda Soccer Club is proud to announce the launch of a new pre-professional men’s team, which will compete in USL League Two (USL Two) starting in Summer 2026. This landmark moment marks a significant step forward for the club.

For over four decades, Bethesda has produced athletes who have advanced to the collegiate, professional, and national team levels. The addition of a USL Two team now completes a full development pathway, allowing players to grow within the club from youth through pre-professional competition. Pierre Dyer, a current Bethesda MLS NEXT coach and former player, will manage and coach the new team. He is known for his deep understanding of the club’s values and long-term vision.

“This is a defining moment for our club and our community,” said Jonathan Colton, Executive Director of BSC. “Our goal is to provide a top-level platform for BSC to develop players beyond our youth system. I’m pleased that Pierre will be leading this next chapter for our club.”
Home matches are set to begin in May 2026, hosted at the Maryland Soccerplex Stadium. Bethesda, MD—[April 9, 2025]—Bethesda SC has partnered with two difference-makers starting in the summer! We want to welcome Pablo Amaya, a sports performance leader, and Randy Rocha, a sports rehabilitation expert, to the Bethesda community.

Pablo Amaya worked with DCU’s first team. He spearheaded four years of Personal BIOMETRICS development for top leagues, including Bundesliga, Women’s Premier League, LIGA MX (Mexican League), MLS, USL, Brazilian & Argentine Division 1 League. Has collaborated with strength and conditioning coaches from Atlante & Leones Negros on tailored programming for their clubs.
 
Randy Rocha is a Licensed athletic trainer in Maryland and surrounding areas (DC, MD, VA). He is the former Head Fitness Coach for MLS’s DC United, the US Soccer Men’s Olympic Team Beijing and London Qualifying (2008 & 2012), and the head athletic trainer and fitness Coach for the Women’s Professional Soccer teams of the Washington Freedom and the Washington Spirit.

Bethesda Soccer Club Announces Plans for New Indoor Facility and Center of Excellence

Bethesda, MD—[February 24, 2025]—Bethesda Soccer Club (BSC) is excited to announce plans for a state-of-the-art, 35,000-square-foot indoor soccer facility aimed at player development, expanding community engagement, and providing year-round training opportunities for athletes of all ages.

As construction continues, the Bethesda Soccer Club is enthusiastic about this facility’s positive impact on the local soccer community and beyond.

The new facility will feature five soccer fields, a sports performance technology center, and dedicated spaces for technical development, fitness training, and community events. This development supports Bethesda’s mission of fostering a love for the game while promoting healthy lifestyles and teamwork among youth.

“Bethesda Soccer Club has always been about more than just soccer; it’s about building a community,” said Jonathon Colton, Executive Director of BSC. “This new indoor facility will allow our players to train and compete in a safe, controlled environment throughout the year and serve as a hub for community events and engagement.”

The indoor facility is designed to accommodate various age groups and skill levels, ensuring that everyone, from beginners to elite players, can benefit from the resources available. Additionally, BSC plans to host clinics, camps, and tournaments, making it a vibrant regional soccer center.

Private donations and community partnerships will fund the project. BSC actively seeks support from sponsorships, local businesses, and organizations to realize this vision.

“We believe that this facility will serve as a catalyst for growth in our soccer programs and elevate the overall experience for our players and families,” added Jonathon Colton. “We invite everyone in the community to join us on this exciting journey.”

An official groundbreaking ceremony will be scheduled for June 2025, and the community is encouraged to attend to learn more about the facility and its positive impact on local soccer programs.

The club has a remarkable track record, having developed 72 professional players since 2000. An average of three players per graduating class turns professional. Notable alumni include Joe Gyau (Borussia Dortmund), Gedion Zelalem (Arsenal), Andi Sullivan (Washington Spirit), and Jeremy Ebobisse (San Jose Earthquakes).

Positive Coaching Alliance Partnership

Bethesda Soccer Club has established a two-year partnership with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA). This national non-profit develops “Better Athletes, Better People” by working to provide all youth and high school athletes with a positive, character-building sports experience.

 

The partnership provides Bethesda Soccer Club access to PCA’s training for coaches, sports parents, student-athletes, and administrators. The training comprises live group workshops, online courses, books by PCA Founder Jim Thompson, and additional online resources, such as e-mailed follow-up tips and reminders.

PCA has partnered with roughly 3,500 youth sports organizations, schools, districts, conferences, and parks-and-rec departments to create a Development Zone™ culture. The goal is to use youth and high school sports to develop Better Athletes and Better People.

Elite Striker Program

Program Description:

This program will offer players the unique opportunity to develop their ability to properly strike the soccer ball to generate power and accuracy, initially moving on to finishing technique (1v1 with a GK) and types of finishes and attacking movement in and around the 18-yard area. This progressive program develops from sessions 1 to 5, and each returning player from clinic 1 onwards will progress into the next phase of Striker development. This is a highly technical program where techniques are specifically broken down in great detail to provide individuals with crucial feedback to generate maximum effectiveness and confidence to use in the game.

Open to boys and girls. You MUST register in blocks. You may not register for individual sessions.

Ekkono Clinic

WHAT IS EKKONO?

The Ekkono Method, a well-regarded soccer training methodology, emphasizes fostering players who excel in game interpretation and decision-making. Conceived over 20 years ago by David Hernández and Carles Romagosa, it’s a cognitive soccer training approach aiming to create “smart players” capable of finding intelligent solutions during play. The core objective is to ensure players can accurately interpret the game dynamics and respond effectively, enhancing their overall on-pitch performance.

EKKONO IS A FOOTBALL TRAINING METHOD USED FOR MORE THAN 40 PROFESSIONAL CLUBS, FOOTBALL FEDERATIONS AND UNIVERSITIES ALL OVER THE WORLD.

Juniors Program

WHAT IS SOCCER JUNIORS?

Soccer Juniors is Bethesda Soccer’s early childhood program. It aims to instill a love for soccer and some basic comfort with the ball. The program focuses on giving players the foundations of the game so they can apply them later in their soccer careers.
 
While technical sessions are essential, so is fun. Players learn to enjoy the game in an environment that encourages learning and play.
 
Campers are divided into age groups, and each session will include technical-based games and fun games. Players will also have the opportunity to play in small-sided games.
