What is Goal to Goal

Goal to Goal is a high-intensity, 1v1 tournament designed specifically for youth players (U8 to U14) to showcase their elite shooting, shot-stopping, rapid distribution, and tactical decision-making. Opposing players (goalkeepers and field players) face off across their respective halves, engaging in a nonstop barrage of shots. It strips soccer down to its most thrilling element: the ultimate showdown between two shot stoppers or goal scorers.

Rules

Tournament Match Formats

  • Standard Match Duration: 5 minutes per game, running clock
  • Winner Determination: The player who scores the most goals before time expires wins the match.
  • Tournament Points: Standard group stages award 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss.

Tournament Rules

Field & Age

  • U9 to U12 Division: Size 4 soccer ball
  • U13/14 Division: Size 5 soccer ball
  • Single Ball Rule: Only one ball is active on the field at a time.
  • All divisions will play in a 5v5 field format with a 12 x 7 goal size.

During the Play

  • Half-Line Restriction: Players must remain entirely within their own half. Crossing the line results in an immediate turnover of possession.
  • The Bounce Rule: If a shot bounces and crosses over the half-line, it becomes live possession for the defending opponent.
  • Ceiling Netting: If the ball touches the ceiling net or overhead facility framework, play is dead. Any resulting goal does not count, and possession transfers to the opponent.
  • Goalkeeper Box: Hands are strictly allowed only inside the designated goalkeeper/penalty box. Handling the ball outside this box results in a penalty or turnover.
  • The 6-Second Rule: Upon gaining clear possession, a player has exactly 6 seconds to shoot or distribute the ball.
  • Distribution Styles: Players can score using throws, volleys, half-volleys, punts, drop-kicks, or rolling the ball to kick it off the ground.

Group Stage Tie-Breakers

If two or more players finish even in the tournament standings, standard group tie-breakers apply:

  1. Head-to-head match results.
  2. The highest number of clean catches made during the match.
  3. Goal differential (up to a maximum of 7 per game).
  4. Fewest goals allowed.

Knockout Games

  • In the case there’s a tie during the regular time of a knockout game, the winner will be determined by a penalty shootout; 3 penalty shots will be taken. In the case of a tie, the sudden death phase will begin until a winner is determined.
