Team News: Welcome to the Bethesda Juventus team page.
We are off to a busy 2010. We took part in the BSC Thanksgiving Tournament and got one match in the PA Classics Winter College Showcase before the snow shut down the remainder of the tournament. We played in the MSSA Rowland & Stewart Cups, the Disney Presidents Day Tournament and the Jefferson cup. This spring MSYSA State Cup and Maryland Premier League.
Why Juventus? First, it is the favorite team of the coach. Juventus Football Club was found in 1897 in Turin, Italy by a group of high school students whose aim was to have some fun playing football, a sport that was spreading throughout Europe at the time. According to legend, they were passing notes during Latin class and the professor inquired about what they were doing. One of the students remarked that they were gathering for a study group. The response from the professor was che juventus!, which means what youth. Thus the team name. So it is an appropriate name for a youth team. And finally, Juventus is one of the most storied clubs in soccer history. It is with that goal in mind that the boys try to achieve the highest level possible.
The team philosophy for Bethesda Juventus is twofold: learning the fundamentals of the game while having fun playing it. The team employs a short-passing style with an emphasis on ball control. As Tony loves to harp upon the boys over and over again: you control the ball, don't let the ball control you At this age, it is about learning how to play the game. If the boys get the fundamentals down, the victories will come. It is not about winning everything today, it is about developing so that the players can make the next level.
