Club Works to Acquire Quality Fields
The Board of Directors with the assistance of many
members of the club has investigated more than 300 potential field
sites since our last annual meeting in September 2008. These
investigations have included financial analysis, zoning &
permitting research, review of hundreds of aerial photos &
topographic maps, meetings with permitting agencies, meetings with
property & facility owners, meetings with contractors, and a ton
of site visits.
The club's efforts over the past 15 years has set aside
substantial funding and has enabled the current Board to feverishly
pursue one of the key goals of the club; which is to provide the best
training & game facilities for our players and coaches at a very affordable
level. Three of the main objectives of our field acquisition
committee have been to: 1) consolidate the multiple training sites
currently utilized by teams in order to facilitate a stronger club
atmosphere & sense of home, 2) provide these fields in an area
proximate to our membership with easy access, and 3) provide these
fields in a manner that is sustainable and renewable into the future
(i.e. we need to be able to continue to fund the use of these fields
long into the future).
As the club is investigating many other opportunities;
such as becoming a member of the Boy's Academy league & Girl's
Red-Bull league, and partnering with other prestigious soccer groups
in the area, we have also focused on acquiring extremely high quality
training facilities in both up-county and down-county areas.
Many of the club's teams have gone above & beyond to
help facilitate a long term contract with the Maryland Soccer
Foundation which has essentially created a BSC "home field"
at the Soccer-Plex. These efforts will go a long way toward
meeting the up-county portion of our goals and will help facilitate a
strong sense of club camaraderie as we all train in a central
location. We are also working to consummate a long term deal at
a very well located down-county facility to help round out our field
needs. We believe club members will be very excited about this
opportunity. More will follow on this in the upcoming months as
the details are finalized.
But we are not done. We continue to search for
beneficial partnerships and field opportunities. Continuing to
consolidate training sites with better, more centrally located
facilities at a more affordable price is a goal that will require a
club wide effort. Thank you to all those who have helped so far.
If you have any fund-raising ideas, field opportunities, or would
like to volunteer to help with these objectives, please don't
hesitate to e-mail our Field Acquisitions Coordinator, Bruce Pitts,
at bpitts@bethesdasoccer.org.

against formidable rivals Trevor Martin, Emile Mbouh, and Matthew
Ney? For which side of the aisle will Kert Mease and Festus
George play? CATCH THE ACTION....... March 7th.... Let's rock

Supporting the
Washington Freedom
|
|
Hello Parents/Players,
My name is Joanna DeWolfe and I am currently on the Board of the
Bethesda Soccer Club as the Older Girls Coordinator. I am not
sure if you are aware, but we ALL have a tremendous opportunity to
support, promote, and further Women's Soccer -- the game in which our
daughters are so passionate. Although we have made tremendous
strides, we still have a ways to go!! When we look out at the
soccer landscape, we now see girls/women who have great enthusiasm
for the game, who have equal opportunity to play, who have dedicated,
qualified coaches who choose to work with them, AND now, who have the
opportunity to play at ALL levels..... from youth recreational and
travel to high school to college to olympic and now to
professional!! Yes, the Washington Freedom have returned to the
professional limelight and they are in our backyard!!!
The BSC Board views their comeback as a real opportunity for all of
us to give to our daughters, our granddaughters, and to that
"unknown" female athlete who has dedicated her time and
talent -- the opportunity to pursue her passion at the highest
level. The Bethesda board feels that as an elite club
with a very strong girl's program, we all should truly strive to
support the Washington Freedom -- their presence completes our continuum.
Moreover, as some of you may be aware - we have a former BETHESDA
player, Joanna Lohman and several coaches in our club (Emily Janss,
Kati Jo Spisak) that are currently rostered to the team.
The Board encourages each of you who are able, to purchase season
tickets or a Freedom membership. Also, we ask that you
encourage other soccer fans you know to support the team too!
Details about season tickets, memberships, and other ticket packages
can be found in the attached documents and on their website (www.washingtonfreedom.com). The
season tickets are reasonable and for 7 games, played at the soon to
be renovated Maryland SoccerPlex, run as low as $105 ($15 per
ticket). For businesses, the Freedom has arranged for season
tickets to be donated to DC Scores, so you can receive a tax write
off all the while getting a bigger bang for your charitable
buck! If you or your friends decide to support the Freedom by
purchasing season tickets or memberships, PLEASE INDICATE THAT YOU
ARE FROM BETHESDA AND INDICATE YOUR TEAM NAME. I know this is a
lot of information, so please feel free to call 202.547.KICK (5425)
and a Freedom Rep. can help explain the different options, answer any
questions and even take your order over the phone.
Also, if you have already purchased a season ticket or membership,
please email me directly at jazawolfe@yahoo.com Although
no formal arrangement has been made, the board is investigating the
possibility of a mutually supportive alliance.
Thank you,
On behalf of the BSC Board
Joanna DeWolfe
