Bethesda Soccer Club Announces Bethesda-Olney Academy Fall 2013-2014 Coaching
BETHESDA, MD - (Friday, May 10, 2013)--Bethesda Soccer Club is pleased to announce the fall 2013-2014 US Soccer Development Academy coaching staff. The Bethesda-Olney Academy consists of some of the most experienced individuals working with youth in North America. Commencing in the fall of 2013, Bethesda-Olney will provide a full-time academy program (i.e., 5x week training + games) similar to professional youth academies in Europe and South America for selected U13, U14, U16 and U18 aged players. The Bethesda-Olney Academy will compete in the US Soccer Development Academy League and Pre-Academy League.
The Bethesda-Olney Academy Technical Directors are Jonathon Colton from Bethesda Soccer Club and Pete Wood from OBGC. Colton and Wood are their respective club's Director of Coaching and will work in unison to provide elite
player selection, coach
collaboration and shared
curriculum and planning.
Colton is a driven leader and under his direction has transformed the Bethesda Boy's program into one of the leading Youth Player Development Programs in the country. The club has produced several Youth National Team Players, many Regional and State Team players as well as State and Regional Championship caliber teams. Colton holds a USSF 'A' License and a Fluminese Futball Club Coaching Diploma from Rio DeJaneiro (Brazil).
Wood has directed OBGC to the next level bringing his experience, discipline and energy. Wood holds a UEFA 'B' License (English), and is from the Former Sheffield Wednesday F.C. Academy- one of the highest youth academies in England and was honored with the 2006 MSYSA Coach of the Year Award.
Colton and Wood are pleased to announce the Bethesda-Olney Academy Coaching Staff:
The U17/18 Bethesda-Olney Academy Team will be lead by Coach Matt Pilkington. Pilkington is coach of the nationally ranked OBGC U17 Olney Rangers, where many players have committed to top NCAA Division 1 programs, as well as Gedion Zelalem signing with Arsenal FC. Pilkington holds a USSF 'A' license and an English 'FA' coaching license. With over 14 years of youth experience, his teams have won 3 Maryland State Cups, and The Dallas Cup (only team from MD to ever win this tournament). Pilkington played NCAA Division 1 soccer at George Washington University (All-Conference/All-Region), and was midfielder at Rochdale FC Academy in England. He played professionally with the Richmond Kickers ( A-League and Pro Team).
Coach Brett Colton will lead the U15/16 Bethesda-Olney Academy Team. Colton is coach of the nationally ranked AC Bethesda U18 boy's team which been selected as one of the top recruiting classes in the country and currently Bethesda's U15 and U16 Age Group Director. In over 15 years of coaching, Colton has trained many youth national team players. His teams have won 3 Maryland State Championships; two with AC Bethesda, one with Bethesda Blue '96 / '97 and a two time Regional Semi-Finalist with AC Bethesda. As a collegiate, he played soccer at American University (NCAA Division l) and anchored the defense to a Sweet 16 NCAA appearance in his Senior year. Colton holds a National "A"License from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
The U15 Pre-Academy Bethesda-Olney Team will be lead by Coach Emile Mbouh. Mbouh is Bethesda's U13 Age Group Director and is current coach of the nationally ranked U15 Bethesda Lions who clinched their ticket back to the 2013 US Youth Soccer National League Championships for a second year in a row. He has developed many national youth team players. Mbouh was Captain of Cameroon’s National Team in ’90 & ’94 World Cup and played in 4 African Nations Cups. He earned 113 Caps for Cameroon. Mbouh played professionally in La Liga in Spain for Valencia, French Ligue 1 for Le Havre. Mbouh holds the French Professional Coaching License.
Coach Matt Ney will lead the U13/14 Bethesda-Olney Academy Team. Ney is currently Bethesda's U12 and U14 Age Group Director and holds a National "A"License from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). He is coach of the highly successful Bethesda Gunners (Blue '98) and has developed many youth national team players such as Gedion Zelalem. His teams have won a Region 1 Championship and Two Maryland State Cup Championships. Ney played collegiate soccer (Forward) at College of the Holy Cross where he was the All-Time leading scorer in school history, 2-Time Patriot League Player of the Year (2002, 2003), 2-time All- New England Region Selection (2002, 2003), 4-time Patriot League All-Conference -- 2nd team (1999); 1st team (2000-2002) and Golden Boot Award for top scorer in US National Championships (2000).
The U13 Pre-Academy Bethesda-Olney Team will be lead by Coach Trevor Martin. Martin holds a National License from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and is coach of many successful Bethesda teams. Martin was a former midfielder/defender for George Washington University Men's Soccer Team and 2 time Atlantic 10 Champion Team. Martin was a 4 year team starter and senior Captain, playing in 20 matches with 17 starts including the NCAA Tournament against North Carolina. Martin is a coach with Bethesda Soccer Club's Youth Development Program.
